New Beginnings

The birth of a new family member always brings joy, happiness, and excitement. The arrival of my little granddaughter Lilly is no different. She is beautiful, adorable, and I can't describe the happiness I feel looking at her photos. I find new motivation in my painting. Less worry about the outcome of the painting but more about enjoying the process of it. I've started using more of the different brushes rather than just sticking with the basics. I am less afraid to experiment. And that's what life should be all about: enjoying the journey, enjoying things we've never tried before. Sure not everything works out. My painting friend Rachel often comments on her frustration with the outcome of the painting. I ask her, "But did you enjoy the process?" Because that's what's ultimately really important. If I enjoy the process, the outcome will follow suit. At least most of the time. And even if there are aspects of a painting I'm not satisfied with, I always find things I love. I always find things where I go, "Wow I did a great job on that." And even Bob Ross says that he wishes all his painting friends never complete a perfect painting because that means they would have nothing left to learn. That makes a lot of sense to me. As for Lilly, I wish her an amazing journey. I wish her all the best life has to offer and even when things get rough I hope she can still enjoy the journey through everything.
