Perspective

Painting, like life, is much about perspective. I find myself struggling with it on canvas…to get the angles of a mountain right…to make sure waterlines are level…to keep the background lighter than the foreground. So many things have to work in harmony for a painting to look truly magnificent. Artists express themselves in so many different ways. My way is realism. I like realism. To create a world on canvas that is clean, inviting, peaceful. While I am far from creating such a masterpiece, I strive to bring a certain stillness into my paintings. I do this because in turn, it gives me a moment of stillness in an otherwise tumultuous life. When I paint, I get a few moments to breathe, to be, to exist unencumbered from the responsibilities and duties of daily life. It helps me keep perspective, to find positivity when there are few positive things in my life. It helps me remember what I am grateful for in my life. It all comes down to perspective.
